Australian Do Not Call Registry
 

Australia has a 'National Do Not Call Registry' to curb the growing amount telemarketing telephone calls that Australians receive. Legislation was passed in the Parliament of Australia on June 30, 2006 enacting the Do Not Call Register Act 2006. The Australian Communications and Media Authority is responsible for establishing and overseeing the register and has appointed Service Stream Solutions Pty Ltd to operate the Do Not Call Register.

The Australian Do Not Call Register and the Industry Standard commenced on May 1st, 2007. On the first day it was inundated with traffic and apparently 'crashed' under the load. The register has attracted some criticism for not attempting to curb unsolicited calls from charities and political parties. The register has also attracted some criticism for not attempting to curb unsolicited fax calls from any party.

New Zealand Name Removal Service

The New Zealand Name Removal Service provides a way for New Zealanders to reduce the amount of junk mail and telemarketing calls they receive.

The service is provided voluntarily by the Marketing Association of New Zealand and stops only calls and mail from their members. It is available to only members of the general public, not to businesses or other organisations.

To access the Name Removal Service a member of the public is required to e-mail or write to the Marketing Association providing their full name, address, telephone number, and fax number (if applicable) and requesting that they wish to be added to the Name Removal Service.
